Why the location matters more than it sounds
The single biggest predictor of whether a massage works is whether you arrived unrushed. Every extra step between your desk and the treatment bed — a drive, a park, a motorway on-ramp — is another chance for the day to follow you in.
Being a few minutes from Britomart, Commercial Bay, Wynyard Quarter and the Viaduct itself removes almost all of that. You can finish at 5.30, walk down towards the water, and be face down by quarter to six. Afterwards, the harbour is right there — and a slow ten minutes along the waterfront is a much better decompression than a car park.
The three ways people actually use it
The lunch-break reset
Thirty or 45 minutes, one area, no oil in your hair. A back and shoulder massage is $65 for 30 minutes and $95 for 45, and it is the treatment specifically aimed at desk-bound neck, shoulder and head tension. Ask for medium pressure and go back to work looser than you left.
Traditional Thai massage also works in a work break, because it is done clothed and you leave without oil on your skin.
The after-work hour
The most common Viaduct booking, and the best one. Sixty or 90 minutes of aromatherapy ($115 / $165) or deep tissue at the end of the day, then dinner nearby or straight home. Our piece on massage and sleep explains why the evening slot outperforms every other time of day.
The proper occasion
Ninety minutes or two hours — hot stone at $175, the Thai herbal compress at $175, or candle therapy massage, which is exclusive to the Viaduct: warm melted massage candle wax worked in with Swedish technique, $140 for 60 minutes, $195 for 90.

Making it a proper evening
The Viaduct is built for the walk afterwards. Out towards Wynyard Quarter over the Te Wero Island bridge, along Silo Park, or east past Princes Wharf towards Britomart — all flat, all lit, all about fifteen minutes. Practical notes for city bookings
- Book the 6.00pm or later slots ahead — weekday evenings are the busiest hours at this branch.
- Arrive ten minutes early. Non-negotiable if you are coming straight from work.
- Do not schedule anything immediately afterwards. Ninety minutes plus dressing plus paying is closer to an hour and fifty.
- Public holidays — we are closed Good Friday, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day, closed until 1.00pm on ANZAC Day, and a 15% surcharge applies on public holidays.
